Hey dad, thanks for thinking of Petrus and how to help him. Good news about him is he decided to move. He is now living about 3 blocks from the church with a young guy from Indonesia named Ardy. I'm thrilled because ardy is awesome, he is one of the strongest members here. Ardy is adorable, he will really help Petrus. And this is a big step for Petrus. Before he kinda acted like "oh nobody can help me, nobody knows how i feel, you don't understand" etc etc. But the fact that he has quit his job, and moved houses, so he can be around people who will influence him for the better is wonderful. The place he lived before was filled with all his smoking and drinking friends. Not a good atmosphere. Ardy and Petrus also live close to a lot of other members, so there is a lot of support for him.
It sounds like Island Park was a lot of fun. Sorry the scheduling didn't work out nicely for all the fam to be together. You all sound busy as ever.
Everything is Miri is going ok. Besides the never ending questions about how to work her cell phone or what's wrong with her computer Sister Clark is quite enjoyable :-). It has been a little wierd for me because I don't really know what to do with her. Right now I don't have many good investigators which normally would mean we get on the bikes and go contacting and knocking and visit members for referalls all day despite hot hot sun or pouring rain. This cannot be done with Sister Clark. A nice member from the Chinese Group here has driven us around to various stores so Sister Clark can buy some things. We have gone on a couple outings with realtors becuase she needs to find a place for her and her new companion coming in Sept. It just doesn't feel like missionary work that I am used to and I don't like it. We did manage to go to a couple appointments of mine last night but sister clark just sat on the couch not understanding anything. I was concentrating so hard on understanding what people were saying (there were 15 people there) and teaching the lesson that I didn't really translate anything for her I felt bad for her. After those two lessons my voice was shot. It's hard teaching alone. I guess this is good for me because I am no longer dreading my new companion coming next week, I'm looking forward to it in eagerness, just so things can get back to normal.
Studying with Sister Clark has been a joy though. She has wonderful insights and is a very wise women. This is her SIXTH mission as a senior sister. That's 6, people. She's been to England, China, New Zealand, Oklahomah City, China again, and now Singapore/Malaysia. whao. what a lady.
When my greenie comes I'll break her into contacting and knocking real fast. Since this week is pretty much shot investigator-wise.
Sister Whittemore went home on Monday. Killing her was a pleasure. Most of the time I forgot she was going home because she was still so dedicated and worked so hard. She will be missed. On Monday Sister Whittemore left early in the morning and SIster Clark didn't arrive until later in the evening so I spent the day with a member from the Chinese group, Sister Etnes. She is adorable. I basically did my studies at her house, or that was the plan. I didn't really get to study that much because she sat by my and talked my ear off all day long. She was cute. I watched her in amazement and she went about her house catching ants and spiders in jars to save as pets for her grandson. She had tons. I wanted to kill them all. I spilled some of the rice she fed me on the floor and not two minutes later hundreds of ants were swarming around it. I pointed them out to her saying sorry, thinking she would swipe them up in a napkin or stomp on them or something. She just said, " never mind let them have a party, this is their holiday" Such a strange mindset. Everyone knows ants don't need parties, what they need is to be smashed. Being with her was quite educational. She pointed out different kinds of ants and characteristics about them. She pointed to a teeny tiny small red ant and said "these ones bite, be careful". Would'nt you know those are the kind of ants swarming my apartment. IT was fun being with her.
Another perk, sister clark let me use her laptop today. No internet cafe!
Man, this week is so weird, I haven't really done any missionary work i feel like...
I'm excited for training in singapore next week.
Love you all
